      Dear Group

Following recent comments in the group and extensive discussion by the
moderating team the following has been decided in respect of owner reviews
and test report editing. The next edition of the Survival Guide will
reflect this decision. These changes will take effect immediately. Although
many options have been discussed in the group, this policy is complete as
published in this note and covers all of the guidelines relevant to
editing. There is no need to review past postings or follow any of the
threads that have been written on this subject to understand the
guidelines. This is it. Any suggestion which is not in these guidelines is
not being implemented at this time.

      GENERAL COMMENTS ON A REPORT/QUESTIONS

Where a member wishes to make a comment on a report or review, or ask a
question, or seek further clarification, etc., from the tester/owner they
are most welcome to do so. Such messages should be treated as a normal
postings to the group. The requirements below DO NOT apply. The following
only applies where the focus of the posting is editing.

WHO CAN EDIT REPORTS AND REVIEWS

First and foremost, ALL group members are welcome to edit ALL owner's
reviews and ALL test reports posted to the group for comment. It is only
asked that you keep in mind the following guidelines on what is acceptable
editing, which apply to ALL of us.

      ACCEPTABLE EDITING REQUIREMENTS

      (1) All editorial postings (i.e., postings that offer editorial comment on
a previous posting) are to be sent to the group (you may cc the writer) and
MUST contain the key word EDIT in the subject line, preferably at the
start. This allows those who wish to use filters (electronic or human) to
      filter as deemed appropriate.

      (2) Acceptable editing is considered to be suggesting fixes for typos,
spelling mistakes and sentences/paragraphs which don't make sense. The
ideal is to try and let the writer's ideas/style stand.

      (3) Try not to repeat the editing corrections suggested by others, thereby
keeping the editing traffic on the group down to a manageable level.

      (4) When replying with comments only include the section of the original
report necessary to get your point across. Do NOT include the entire
original report in your editing mail unless you've truly made edit
      suggestions throughout the report.

      OWNER'S REVIEWS

All may comment on the review and the Acceptable Editing requirements
apply. As per normal, one of the moderating team will approve the review
for uploading and will create the appropriate folder as necessary. For the
period of time from when you post your owner's review to the group and its
approval, please ensure that your edit filtering (if any) is turned off so
as to allow you to get the feedback.

      TEST REPORTS

All may comment on the review and the Acceptable Editing requirements
apply. Monitors are reminded that they have agreed as per the Survival
Guide (Chapter 6) to do as "best you can, ... [to] proofread the report
with an editorial eye and [to] bring any spelling or grammatical errors to
the attention of the tester." The moderators will not get involved in the
editing of the test reports unless it is deemed necessary, i.e., no
response from the monitor or group members within FIVE days of the report
being posted to the group. Testers are asked to TURN-OFF (or adjust) any
edit filtering applicable to their report for the seven days AFTER they
have posted their report to the list to ensure that you get the feedback.

      ELECTRONIC FILTERING

If you would like to make use of electronic filtering but need help on
this, please check out your program's help function and/or ask your
question(s) in the BGTFileUploadHelp group at:
      http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BGTFileUploadHelp/. Please do not ask
filtering questions in the main group. The Moderating Team
