The National Black Young MSM Workgroup Welcome to the NEW National Black Young Men who have Sex with other Men (BYMSM) Workgroup!

This initiative is the result of a group of concerned Black individuals from various locations across the United States. The Workgroup met first in March of 2003, where it was decided the workgroup would work with BYMSM and focus on health issues specific to Black YMSM. Members of the workgroup represent various levels of the community in which we work, socialize, and live.

      Who are we?
      • An Advocacy group working on behalf of BYMSM.  The members of this group gathered around a shared concern for YMSM HIV prevention.

What is the significance of the [Y] in BYMSM?
      • The workgroup decided to use the CDC's definition of young men, including the variance, ages of 13 – 29.

      BYMSM refers to:
      • BYMSM is inclusive of African-Americans, Continental Africans (English-speaking), Afro-Caribbeans (English-speaking), and Afro-Latinos (English-speaking).

All are invited to join this workgroup, barring a formal approval process. This workgroup has a sole focus on health issues specific to BYMSM. Once a member, all are encouraged to participate in listserv discussions and activities regularly.
