Well, the boiler descale is complete and I found the first sign of mild abuse. Someone had used a pipe wrench to remove the boiler drain malforming the plug head but a file corrected that easy enough. At least they cared enough to drain the thing.

Then the thought hit me, it's working fine so... why not fix it?

For sure, I will be adding a 3 way toggle for pump normal, pump off and continuous run (for over filling the boiler when descaling).

A tee on the water inlet would be nice for pulling descaling solution from a jug.

A low water element-shutoff would be added insurance and should require only a ssr that is supplied operating ground from the water level sensor, low water->no ground->ssr not energized->no power to the element. Ssr operating voltage should be available from the control box or supplied from a cheap 6-12v power supply if not.

The one other mod (for complete draining when descaling) that would really be nice is some sort of petcock on the boiler drain plug. Should be a snap to drill, tap and insert one something like what is used on an air compressor tank. Has anyone attempted this type of mod? Willing to offer thoughts and/or suggestions?

      Thanks
