The default is that messages from new users are held, so that sysop approval is needed before messages are visible to other users. This, in conjuction with an appropriate "New User" welcome message, provides a basic registration facility.

      Subject: [BPQ32] User Registration

It may be useful to have a user registration process for the BBS, much like that of forum software, Yahoo! eGroups, etc. - where the User applies, the SYSOP decides ( or has an option to ) and a return message lets the ham know about the outcome before they can actually post - if allowed.

This would be good for 10m, allowing simultaneous User ( posting ) access for locals on ground wave, and Guest ( read only ) access for hams who hook up through the on again, off again magic of 10m skip propagation.

EMCOM folks would like being able to limit posting privelege to a select group while making read-only access open to all.

Leave open access as the default choice, and no serious difficulties should arise from having this option.

It would open up more areas of use for the software, I believe.
