      ways
      To solve this in BPQ32.CFG,
      1 would be to set the RF Port QUALITY=0 this will stop any nodes
      Broadcast and ID from your Station and stop the Keep Alive Poll

      The second way is to lock the route of the nodes you are having problems
      with
      The Quality of each locked route will have to be 1 less then the RF Port
      MINQUAL=168 (typical setting) Example using my Node Call:
      ROUTES
      N9PMO-2,167,1,0,0,0,2
      Where as 167 is 1 less then MINQUAL,RF Port 1, Mask Value 0,0,0,2

      After watching all this run now for a couple days, I asked myself why is the
      link timer pinging every two minutes. Can I set it to say 5 minutes and stop
      some of the extra RF traffic out there.
       
      The X1J4 nodes are also set to two minutes and they are just pinging like
      heck out here.  I know there are like 4 and I am now the 5th Node all within
      hearing distance of each other and maybe this is a problem There are 4 X1J4
      on Mountain Tops all within 40 miles of each other and I can hear all 4 of
      them at my house with BPQ 32. Man what a lot of rf packet racket doing link
      tests.....
       
      Just wondering as this is my first time as a sysop sorta kinda......

            X1J4 is amazing software. IP routing, deviation meter, digipeating,
            L4 node functions and it can even pass all the packets it hears out
            the serial port in KISS protocol. That's the sole reason I have a
            box of MFJ 1270 TNC's waiting to be tuned up and put to use as nodes.

            X1J4 is available as source though the compile chain to make it work
            is apparently a serious challenge. One fellow did a few years ago
            and the result is the UI-DIGI APRS firmware.

            Ah for the good old days of node hopping...

              The  node normally keeps a link open to each NETROM neighbour. This ensures that nodes are actually reachable - you can get routing problems if you hear nodes that can't hear you.
               
              In your situation of 5 nodes on one frequency, the overhead of this may be too much. The real answer is a better network design, but you can turin off the link verification by adding
               
              NOKEEPALIVES=1

              to the PORT configuration of yout RF port. You will then only open up links to nodes when you have traffic to pass.

              You can fiddle with the link verification timer, but this is there to make sure failed links are detected, so I wouldn't recommend running at much more than the standard 180 seconds. Sometimes you will see both ends of the link sending a verification poll (RR P) at the same time, doubling the overhead. If this happens set the timer at each node to a slightly different value - say 290, 295, 300, etc..

              With 5 nodes on a 1200 bps channel you will also need to manage the NODES broadcasts carefully to avoid filling the channel with NODES broadcasts.

                  John, your right in that my station radio is a Kantronics DVR 2-2 on packet BPQ node and also on APRS as my station is on solar. The nodes out there are 25 watts DR-1200t and GE Phoenix;s at 8000 feet. I am at a disadvantage with 2 watts. Hearing a lot but not sure they are hearing me...
