LOL well I hope a certain someone on the list can help get the unit in for "
arranty " repair, just to make sure its not an early sign of a bad batch of
      lastic housings. :-)
I am no engineer but it does take time for stress fractures in the molding
o appear, especially if it's a bad batch of plastic or it wasn't mixed or
      et up right.

I cant speak for the 396XT, but I have seen plenty of blackberrys, Treos,
d a few other devices that have had what you described happen to them.
ometimes over torqueing the screw into the hole will cause the plastic
ditional stress and cause the cracking.
have also seen this happen on devices that have plastic molding, with
tal inserts to hold the screw.
I do hope Uniden helps you take care of it, under warranty or not, just to
e if perhaps it's a problem with a batch housings, or maybe they were not
t to the right torque setting from the factory.
Fhgdel mentioned, maybe a dog knocked it off a table or something. Anything
I hope you get it resolved.

ot trying to be smart or anything at all so don't take this the wrong way
t is it at all possible that "someone else" "dropped" it....such as a
ddo or a dog/cat knocked it off or the ....heaven forbid...your
fe/girlfriend accidentally dropped it while dusting.....? That would be my
