      Unfortunately, it takes longer to discriminate data (which is being FSK modulated using two tones that fall well within the normal voice spectrum) than a solid tone.

      I actually have a GE MVS mobile that has a fast priority around the half
      to quarter-second rate. When someone is talking, you can't even detect
      it - it's THAT fast! The only time you can hear the sampling is when a
      channel has a paging tone on it.
