      We have a lot of exciting music & dance events to share with you this
      month. If you don't live in the San Francisco bay area and you won't
      be visiting here any time soon, you might want to skip this

      In this issue:
      1. Halanda Studio GRAND OPENING on Sunday May 14th 1-5pm, San Jose,
      CA. Food, music, dance performances from all over the world (Hala,
      Amanda, Celena, Vikashni & more), open floor dancing, door prizes &
      great surpises!

      2. Interview with Magda, master Egyptian dancer. She will be teaching
      & performing with husband Atef in Redwood City, CA on May 20th & 21st.
      Deadline for early registration is May 5th (THIS Fri). They will
      also be in New York, Chicago, Austin and New Jersey.

      3. "Mezzas & Tapas", KKUP (91.5FM) Middle Eastern music & culture
      radio show, EXTENDED hours. We'll be broadcasting your music &
      sharing your events TWICE a month now!! On Sat May 6th, 6-9pm, listen
      to an interview with Ghassan Bader, Arabic musician & singer from

      4. Our monthly dance party at Straw Hat in San Jose on Friday May
      12th, 8-10pm. Dance spots still available for May 12th. Please
      contact us if you'd like to dance.

      5. "Raqs Sharqi" workshop with Hala on Sun June 4th, 1-3:30pm: El
      Morocco Restaurant in Pleasant Hill, CA. Hosted by Yosifah! Evening
      show featuring Hala, Yosifah & friends!

      6. Hala Dance Classes:
      Mondays 7-8pm: Halanda studio. May 1st till June 12th. Mulitple
      class registrations or drop-in OK. Open to all levels.
      Wednesdays 6-8pm: Hala Dance Troupe Rehearsals. Please join us if
      you're interested in performing with the Hala Dance Troupe. Not for
      Fridays 5:30 - 6:30pm: Stanford University. April 29th till June 2nd.
      Mulitple class registrations or drop-in OK. Open to all levels.

      Master Egyptian dancer & teacher Magda, shares her history and the
      history of dance in Egypt with Debbie Lammam on the Gilded Serpent.
      How dance used to be, how is it now, what makes a good dancer.
      Magda and her husband Atef will be teaching & performing in Redwood
      City, CA on May 20th & 21st. Deadline for early registration is May

      Magda & Atef will showcase their award winning performances:
      Muwashahat, Nubian, Saidi, Alexandrian and more. Also performing are
      many bay area stars including Yosifah, Karawan, Cat, Debbie, Hala &
      great surprises!

      Time: 7:00 – 9:00pm on Saturday May 20th, 2006 (doors open at 6:30pm)

      Sat 10am-12noon: Shamedaan (candelabra) technique & choreography w/Magda
      Sat 1-3pm: Saidi & Nubian dance w/Atef
      Sun 10am-12noon: Melaya (Alexandrian) & Gawazi (baladi) w/Atef
      Sun 1-3pm: Oriental technique & choreography w/Magda

      4 workshops at $40 each OR $150 for all 4 workshops (advance), $50 /
      workshop @ door (if space is still available)

      Now, TWICE a month!!

      Tune into KKUP Cupertino (91.5 FM):

      The first Saturday of every month from 6:00 - 9:00pm AND
      The third Sunday of every month from 11:00am - 1:00pm
      Listen to music from the Arab World, the Mediterranean basin, North
      Africa and the Middle East. Interviews and community events by local
      artists in the greater San Francisco bay area. Send in your requests
      and upcoming events to Hala by the previous Friday!

      On Sat May 6th, Lebanese musician and singer Ghassan Bader will be
      playing the Oud, singing, sharing his stories about being a singer in
      Lebanon and explaining about Arabic music & intruments.
      Friday May 12th 8-10pm: Join us for a fun evening of music, dance &
      food at Straw Hat Pizza: 1535 Meridian Ave, San Jose, CA.

      As usual, we'll be hosting our monthly dance party on the second
      friday of the month: May 12th. We had a full house in April and we
      hope to do the same in May. For the first time since Feb, dance spots
      are available for the same month. If you'd like to dance on Fri May
      12th, or any subsequent month, please contact us as soon as possible.
      This is a fun event for the whole family and we encourage your
      participation. Especially if you want to try a new routine, perform
      in a supportive environment, get over stage fright or simply bring
      friends and enjoy a fun evening of dance.
      Hala Teaches & Performs Egyptian Dance (Raqs Sharqi) at El Morocco
      Restaurant in Pleasant Hill, CA on Sunday June 4th.

      Location: El Morocco Restaurant at 2203 Morello Avenue at Taylor
      Boulevard, Pleasant Hill, CA
      Hala teaches Egyptian style oriental dance. Come learn the subtleties,
      graceful & mesmerizing dance style from the only native Egyptian
      dancer in the bay area! Evening performances by bay area stars
      including Yosifah, Hala & more!
      Workshop: 1:00 - 3:30pm (doors open at 12:30pm)
      Show: starts at 6:00pm

      Hala Dance Classes for May/June:

      till May 25th, 2006. Class ends on May 25th.

      Fri 5:30 - 6:30pm. Bechtel International Center at Stanford U. April
      29th to June 2nd. Drop in OK. Sign up in class.

      Hala Dance Troupe is currently accepting new members. If interested,
