LIVERMORE -- Politicians and members of the public got to test ride a new express bus system Thursday.
The Rapid, a new Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority bus system, is set to begin Jan. 24 and promises to transport riders up to 20 percent faster.
The bus system will serve riders at only 25 stops -- including Stoneridge mall in Pleasanton, Sandia and Lawrence Livermore laboratories, and the Dublin-Pleasanton BART station -- every 10 minutes during commute hours and 15 minutes during noncommute hours from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. weekdays.
Tickets will cost the same as the regular Wheels bus fare and will be free from Jan. 24 through Feb. 4 as an incentive for riders to try out the new system.
The addition of the system will alter several existing bus routes beginning Jan. 22. Authority officials encourage passengers to check new schedules at http://www.wheelsbus.com or call 925-455-7500. For Rapid schedules, go to http://www.trivalleyrapid.com
