Statement From Mehdi Morshed, Executive Director

SACRAMENTO -- "Comments <http://tinyurl.com/5pj8gr> from the Union
Pacific spokesman about the safety of introducing a high-speed train
system in California are erroneous. The beauty of California's
high-speed train system is that it will operate completely separate
from freight rail on dedicated tracks that bar interference from
freight trains and automobile and pedestrian traffic. In reality,
the high-speed train service will significantly improve how
California moves goods and people by eliminating more than 600
existing railroad crossings in cities throughout the state, which
will reduce the amount of time, money and fuel people are currently
      wasting waiting at railroad crossings."

"Further, there is no other transportation system with a safer track
record than high-speed train. High-speed passenger trains, car
traffic and freight rail will all safely and efficiently coexist.
Look to Europe and Asia for evidence: high-speed train travel has
been in use for decades and has proven to be the safest, most
reliable form of transportation in the world."
