BART OFFICIALS SAY RIDERSHIP IS UP
Nearly 52,000 passengers boarded Bay Area Rapid Transit trains to
travel to the San Francisco International Airport during the 2006
holiday travel period, according to a spokesman for BART.
The number of travelers recorded from Dec. 21 to Dec. 27 marks a 4.5
percent increase in riders over last year, according to a statement
from BART spokesman Jim Allison.
According to Allison, passengers have set ridership records to the
airport during the holiday travel period each year since the station
at SFO opened in 2003.
BART officials attribute the increase in ridership to BART's low cost,
the frequency of trains, and the agency's high on-time record.
