Nevin out of office but not the spotlight

Mike Nevin was termed out of his 12-year post on the county Board
of Supervisors earlier this month, but if you think Nevin is going
to fade into the background of county politics, think again.

Ever the consummate politician, Nevin may be out of office, but he
will hardly be out of the spotlight. Nevin sat down with The Insider
      recently and discussed his plans.

Nevin's well-publicized run for Jackie Speier's state Senate seat is
at the top of the list. He will spend the next year fund-raising and
campaigning in what should a tough race against Assemblyman Leland
Yee and former Assemblyman Lou Papan.

Nevin will also continue as a powerful force in shaping
transportation in the county and region by sitting on boards for
SamTrans, Caltrain, the Transbay Terminal and the Metropolitan
Transportation Commission. He was named chair of the Caltrain board
      last week.

Finally, Nevin also hopes to expand his duties for BayBio
<http://www.baybio.org>. He is working as public affairs director for
the nonprofit organization, which represents the interests Bay Area
      bioscience companies.
