Group Description

The Brookings Area Homeschool Alliance welcomes all families engaged in or considering educating their children at home in the region surrounding Brookings, SD.

The BAHA_MAS@yahoogroups.com also welcomes pas, that is dads or fathers, but the warmth of a group address of Bahamas was too tempting to skip! An important aspect of the group is to keep each other informed via e-mail of community and university activities that might enhance a home school education. BAHA_MAS can be as chatty as the members desire. If some prefer a less active e-mail group, a subgroup can be formed.

BAHA collects no dues; families pay for activities directly when fees are encountered. All BAHA activities, such as field trips, book discussions, one-time or ongoing classes, are member-initiated. Rent-free community locations such as the Park and Rec Center, public library, and parks can be scheduled for events. Members' homes make great meeting places, too.

BAHA has no hierarchy. Members suggest activities to the group through e-mail, and when there is sufficient interest, go ahead and take the idea to fruition.

BAHA welcomes people who recreate the public school in their home, unschoolers, and everyone in between!

BAHA welcomes atheists, polytheists, and monotheists of all types. Members need not squelch their freedom of religion or their freedom of speech, yet since home schoolers tend to hold many values strongly and dearly, it is requested that humility be practiced by all. An alliance is an association to further the common interests (home schooling) of the members. The more diverse our membership becomes, the more enriching the experience becomes for us all!
