      Rick, I don't know how this sent from my Hotmail account, Sorry I don't check it often.

      IEC is using 3 byte for part 104 - Control Devices.

      The part 103 lays the lower network layer foundation to allow for different packet sizes. It may be merged into a revised part 102 which was the original 2 byte DALI.

      Could you provide info on the direction the IEC is pursuing on 2 vs 3 byte DALI. There is a lot of interest here. Can't tell from your notes.

      Also, why did NEMA decide to step away from their efforts.

      Not much changed since last update. A few notes below.

      Lighting Protocol related activities



      NEMA

      LC Section



      1. Supporting work in IEC62386-103/104 DALI Control Devices (see below)

      2. Supporting work in IEC62756 “Digital load line transmission lighting interface” AKA "DLT" (see below)





      SSL Section



      1. Release of Standards Publication No. SSL-6 SOLID STATE LIGHTING FOR INCANDESCENT REPLACEMENT—DIMMING. This standard describes parameters associated with phase-cut dimming of LED lamps using installed base of incandescent dimmers.

      2. Considering new improved standards for 0-10V dimming of LED’s

      3. New group formed SSL-7 to develop global standard for Phase-cut dimming of new SSL lamps and dimmers. Global participation. RH - This is progressing very quickly with next face to face meeting in Paris in March.



      HPBC (High Performance Building Council.)



      1. Mirror committee to SPC201P – Facility data model. - Model is assembled and undergoing final revisions. RH – next meeting at AHR

      2. Starting taskforce on “Best practices for integrating building systems” (previously known as “Barriers to total building integration”). Paper discussing issues and practices for integration of Lighting, HVAC, IT and other systems. Slow start due to workloads - Looking for tf volunteers from all related industries – can be non-NEMA. Contact Robert Hick - RH – no progress on this yet.



      IEC activities



      1. IEC62386-103 DALI control device basic requirements



      This Standard is near completion and defines the bus access requirements for a multi-master control device.

      Highlights:

      Message frames other than standard 19 bit (16 bits + start and 2 stop bits) allowed.

      5 priorities for network messages.

      Collision detection and avoidance.

      RH – Decision to incorporate part 103 into existing part 102-Basic requirements.





      1. IEC62386-104 DALI control device advanced requirements



      This standard defines functionality of control devices and is still in draft form.

      RH – Progress is slow on this part – Next Meeting – 1/23/12



      2. IEC62756-1



      This standard will define a method to modulate the supply voltage to the lighting load with 2 bi-phase bits per AC half cycle. Telegrams include lighting level, color, color temperature, and manufacturer specific messages. Three zones of lighting control will be possible. Primarily targeted at self-contained CFL and LED lamps. Two meetings have been completed and next meeting is in October. Expected completion is Q4 2012. Chaired by Robert Hick.
