...WIND CHILL ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM CST /7 PM EST/ THIS
EVENING TO 9 AM CST /10 AM EST/ TUESDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS ISSUED A WIND CHILL
ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM CST /7 PM EST/ THIS
EVENING TO 9 AM CST /10 AM EST/ TUESDAY.

A FORCEFUL CLIPPER WILL SWEEP ACROSS NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND
INDIANA THIS MORNING...EARMARKED BY WINDS SWITCHING TO THE
NORTHWEST AND INCREASING TO 35 MPH. CURRENT FRIGID TEMPERATURES
WILL BEGIN A SLOW DESCENT THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. BY EVENING...
ALL TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE AREA SHOULD BE IN THE SINGLE DIGITS.
BUT THESE WILL PLUMMET BELOW ZERO AFTER SUNSET. THIS COMBINED
WITH THOSE STRONG WINDS WILL LOWER WIND CHILLS FROM 15 BELOW TO 20
TO 25 BELOW OVERNIGHT. DAYTIME TEMPERATURES OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS
WILL RECOVER TO ABOVE ZERO VALUES WHILE WINDS DIMINISH TO 10 TO
15 MPH. HOWEVER CONTINUED SUBZERO NIGHTTIME LOWS COMBINED WITH
EVEN THESE LIGHTER WINDS WILL RETURN OVERNIGHT WIND CHILLS TO 25
TO 30 BELOW NORTH OF INTERSTATE 80...AND 20 TO 25 BELOW SOUTH OF
THERE. A SLIGHT WARMUP WILL BEGIN ON TUESDAY WITH WINDS BACKING TO
THE SOUTHWEST. THIS WILL PUT AN END TO THE CRITERIA NECESSARY FOR
THE ADVISORY. HOWEVER NIGHTTIME LOWS ARE STILL FORECAST IN THE
      SINGLE NUMBERS THROUGH FRIDAY.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS
WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE WIND CHILLS AT OR LESS THEN 20 BELOW. THIS
WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS
ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS...DRESS IN LAYERS AND
COVER ALL SKIN. MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES. LIMIT OUTDOOR
ACTIVITY TO MINIMIZE EXPOSURE...AS FROSTBITE CAN OCCUR IN 30
      MINUTES OR LESS.

PETS ARE ALSO SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE EXTREME COLD AS MUCH AS YOU ARE.
KEEP PETS INDOORS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. IF THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE...
MAKE SURE OUTDOOR PETS HAVE WARM DRY SHELTER. PROVIDE SUFFICIENT
      FOOD AND FRESH UNFROZEN WATER.
