the north: Exit 342
for State Rt 158 is open and there shouldn’t be any problem unless the
I-94 construction farther south is backing up. Try WLWK (94.5 FM) for
traffic reports around and south of Milwaukee.
the south: I-94
narrows to two lanes in each direction (left lane closed) at the WI/IL
state line. Traffic through that area is heaviest between 4:30 and 6pm
on Friday – expect slowed traffic and be on the watch for trucks
merging from US 41 or exiting at Russell Road. If the construction zone
backs up significantly, it will also affect the on-ramp from US 41. The
exit for the site (Exit 342 for State Rt 158) is the second exit after
the end of the construction zone and you should not have any problem
getting to it. WBBM (780 AM) is your best source for traffic reports
through the Chicago area and points north.
the west: County
Highway C is closed at the Interstate for construction. Your best route
around is to take US 45 north to Highway 50, then turn east toward the
Interstate. You can also come all the way across on IL-173 to US 41,
but that will not get you around the construction zone.
travelers: State Rt
158 narrows to one lane in each direction near the Kenosha Airport but
will widen again in a couple of miles. There is a brief construction
area under the railway bridge just before the intersection with
Sheridan Road; again, the road narrows briefly to one lane in each
direction but the intersection itself and its turn lane are clear.
Gas is currently selling in the Kenosha area between $2.63
and $2.67 per gallon.
Kenosha police and the WI State Patrol are strongly
enforcing construction- zone speed limits and seat-belt use.
Please drive safely!
