Re: Cooking for the shire
- You've got a reasonable thought there. Much of the food is often prepared the week before the event anyway.
To get started just choose an event you'd like to help at - look up the website - and the call/email the person cooking for the event. This could be either the person organizing feast or the person in charge of lunch.
Keep in mind that for feasts the cook usually has a certain plan for the menu and will also likely have a hand picked prep crew to work with so that everyones skills mesh. Because of that you might volunteer for a lunch first.
And, of course, do your best to get to know the cooks in the area.

I know I'd need to start with just events in my area, Tree-Girt-Sea and the surrounding areas, since I can't very well bring food further than I could reasonably drive in an afternoon. Where do I get started? To whom should I speak?
