I am organizing a session of paper presentations at the World Congress on Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo, MI in May, 2010, and I still have spaces left. The general topic of the session is "medievalism in children's and young adult literature with a focus on others and othering". The official Call for Papers appears below.
The Congress's rules specify
that I can not accept papers from
undergraduate students, though I can accept papers from graduate
students, PhD's, and Independent Scholars.
I need an abstract by September 15th, but you don't have to register (and pay) for the Congress until April, and you certainly don't have to have the paper finished until the night before. The abstract can be so abstract it's a Picasso.
Please feel free to pass on the CFP to others who might be interested. (Though if you pass it on in the academic world, delete this top bit, please.)
Call for Papers for the 45th Annual World
Congress on Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo May 13-16, 2010, has been
published, and the Special Session on Voices of the Medieval in
Children's and Young Adult Literature appears on p. 37. A .pdf file is
available on the Medival Institute's Website at http://www.wmich.edu/medieval/congress/sessions.html
I would be happy to recieve paper proposals from you by the September
15th deadline. Please include a Participant Information Form, which is
also available at the Medieval Institute's Website.
The theme for this year's panel is Others and Othering. I am
looking for papers about texts which explore the relationship of the
protagonist(s) with Others, be they Others by virtue of gender, faith,
species, generation, etc.
I wouldbe glad to talk with potential presenters about paper topics before they write abstracts.
Please, pass this call for papers on to anyone else who might be interested in submitting a paper.
I look forward to hearing from you.
