Subject: Welcome to the 3rd Annual Midwest Fiber & Folk Art Fair!

Spring is here and we are kicking off the 3rd annual Midwest Fiber & Folk Art Fair!

      JULY 17-19, 2009

      McHenry County College
      8900 US Hwy 14,
      Crystal Lake , IL

We’ve got a group on Facebook! Join us in the “Fans of the Midwest Fiber & Folk Art Fair” Group

We’ve got a group on Ravelry! Join us in the “Midwest Fiber & Folk Fair” Group

We are currently putting together this year’s list of fabulous workshops! Check the site in May for registration. (We’ll also send you an update when it is ready).

Our list of vendors for 2009 is almost complete – watch the site later this month!  We have an amazing array of vendors coming this year!

The northwest area arts council has issued the call for artists for the 2009 Fiber & Folk Fine Art Show! We have had wonderful entries the last two years including felted paintings and clothing, quilts and art quilts, baskets, woodcarving, pottery, knitted items, hand wovens and more. We are now accepting applications for the show. See details at www.fiberandfolk.com/fineart.htm.

The northwest area arts council is now accepting applications for our Fiber & Textile Art Awards. We will be giving away $2000 scholarships to two college students at the Fair, thanks to a very generous donation from Toni Neil (The Fold). Details and our application will be on our web site at www.fiberandfolk.com/scholar.htm later this week.

Thanks to our new partnership with Off Square Music (www.offsquare.org) we will be featuring some fabulous national folk music acts this year at the Fair, including:

Friday Afternoon – Small Potatoes: http://www.smallpotatoesmusic.com

      Saturday – Mark Dvorak : http://www.markdvorak.com and Lou & Peter Berryman: http://www.louandpeter.com/

And more local acts including Macyn Taylor, Mark Hobbs, The Beaumonts, Amy Dixon-Kolar, Mary Lai, Russ & Diane Ward, Live Bait, Don Humbertson & Merv Collins, and Kent Fishburn & Debbie Firak. You can also perform – we are having an “Open Mic” day on Sunday – contact Off Square Music if you would like to perform or for more information at offsquare@...

We are calling for guilds to demonstrate and strut their stuff at the Fair! If you belong to a guild that demonstrates and would like to promote both your artwork and your guild at the Fair, please contact Betty at volunteer@... for more information.

Planning to take a workshop and spend the weekend at the Fair? We’ve got some GREAT hotel discounts just for you.   See our site at www.fiberandfolk.com/hotel.htm and DON’T WAIT TOO LONG. The rates are only good for a limited time, and once all the rooms are booked, regular rates apply.  Our discounts are substantial and run about $30/night off!

We started gathering three times a month to “Do It In Public”. (We just can’t wait a whole year until the next Fair). Come on out and join us and get news of the Fair, meet some great people, see what everyone is working on, share ideas and projects, and just have fun! I really want to also be DIIP’ing at the Fair in the afternoons with you all, so bring something to work on (or buy something new to work on) and join me in either the Cafeteria area or at the tables outside! Stay tuned, and I’ll let you know more as I develop the schedule of events.

See the site at www.fiberandfolk.com/diip.htm for our DIIP FAQs (what is DIIP? Why do we DIIP?) and our dates and meeting places. Plan to join us on June 13 for World Wide Knit in Public Day (DIIP International). We’ll be Workin on the Railroad and meeting up in Chicago!

Those of you in southern Wisconsin – I don’t include you in the DIIP announcements, but some of you may be close enough to join us at our locations in Lake and McHenry Counties. If you would like to be included in our DIIP mailings, please email me at this address with the subject “DIIP LIST” and let me know! We’d love to have you join us!

…is the best way to advertise. Our general contact list has grown from our very first year as more of you tell your friends about this fabulous Fair. THANK YOU for sharing your belief in the Midwest Fiber & Folk Art Fair. Please pass on this email to your family, friends, clubs, guilds, and fellow artisans and favorite shops!

Celebrating the work of our hands together,
