I know this is off-topic, but this was a Chicago (Ayreton) incident that seems to have been forgotten...

Happy 20th Anniversary to "Microwave Max". On this day in 1987, you broke into two different television broadcasts within 2 hours of each other. To this day, you have not been caught, and your identity is still unknown.

First, you interrupted Dan Roan's sports broadcast during WGN's "News at Nine". All you were able to get out though was about 30 mute seconds of your pre-taped material before the WGN technicians were able to take back control of their airwaves.

Later, you broke into WTTW's airing of "Doctor Who" after 11PM, and aired a minute and a half vignette of you wearing a Max Headroom mask (hence being called "Microwave Max") while saying various one-liners. At least one of the one-liners seems to refer to breaking into WGN's airwaves: "greatest world's newspaper nerds" is a play on the Chicago Tribune's slogan, "World's Greatest Newspaper", the call letters for WGN. After the roughly 90-second video piece, which ends with you getting spanked by a child with a flyswatter, you gave control of the airwaves back to WTTW, and then you disappeared.

What you did 20 years ago was incredible. And it will probably never be duplicated again.

Here is the video of "Microwave Max" breaking in on WTTW. It is subtitled, but not all of the subtitles sound like they're exactly right...

And here is the Wikipedia entry for this...

So, Happy Anniversary "Microwave Max". Too bad either WGN or WTTW won't mention it today.
