- Nov 22, 2018Hi David,I’ve missed the part where Avid needs to update. Write 64 bit stuff I can understand (but I have no clue how complicated / easy that would be).But since ProRes is already native, how hard can it be?For VLC, I think it’s more LibAV than FFmpeg, but that is nitpicking. On 22 Nov 2018, at 00:46, David Ross speckydave@... Adobe has already done this with their apps, and Avid have stated they are in the process of doing so. It's hardly a controversial point. And yes, VLC will continue to be able to play all these videos happily on Mac OS, thanks to ffmpeg. Not sure how that matters to Avid editors though.D.

"there isn't really such a thing as a 32-bit file"At least someone has some sense. The codec doesn't need updated, it's the software (i.e. Avid) that needs updated.why i.e. Avid? I would say Apple is cheap and arrogant / lazy.Avid gives out licenses for the codecs. I’m afraid it is a stand off where both AVID and Apple want to see money for the codecs to be included in FCPX.And some stupid nitwits over at the COW now call DNxXX ‘obsolete’ just because Apple puts its nose in the air.And WHO CARES WHAT QTX CANNOT PLAY IF THERE IS VLC AS A FIX? (the rhymes come free.)Now, again (and this won’t be the last time.)Quicktime is NOT dead. The only thing that will be killed is QTplayer 7 (and lower) for Mac on newer Mac OS’sThis means nothing for the .mov format. (But I fear that a lot of the original specs / possibilities with the format will not be supported anymore, and IMHO that is a shame. But I grasp the logic, Apple is a poor company that has to keep waling on its toes in order to survive in this killing business where it feels the steamy hot breath of Avid and Adobe in its neck.) - << Previous post in topic Next post in topic >>
