Matt Herman has logged about twenty years on the electric guitar, and has employed live looping techniques since 2001. Matt's guitar style and setup has increasingly been influenced by the concept of extended range guitar (as explored by Emmett Chapman with the Stick): a lower baritone range that extends through a guitar's standard upper range...augmented with live loops.
CJ Borosque - trumpet, analog pedals, turntables, video, paintings, poetry and other things...is a well known bay area based writer, improviser and noise artist. She is a noiscian, and a visual artist whose home is in the underground music of the San Francisco Bay Area. She has performed at the NorCal Noise fest on several occasions, The Big Sur Experimental Music Festival (2003/04), The Oakland Noise festival and twice at the Spring Reverb experimental music festival in San Diego. Mostly notably at the San Diego Museum of Modern Art. She has played often at Luna's Cafe in Sacramento. She plays with Rent Romus, Phillip Everett and Ray Schaeffer in the Free Jazz Freak-Out group "Lords of Outland", She also plays regularly in sax man Jim Ryan's Free Jazz ensemble "Forward Energy" with, Rent Romus, Jim Ryan, Timothy Orr, Eric Marshall, and Scott R. Looney. She also is in a duo with vocalist Laurie Amat, called "Red Thread".
"Dead Western plays the type of music that makes genres obsolete. It is not that DW does the cross genre pollination clusterbarf, but that Troy Mighty's sounds exist outside of any one (or two or five) genres. Perhaps, just perhaps the music recalls the mellow, introspective side of Current 93 or the druggy downer folkishness of Legendary Pink Dots but that is stretching things as much as claiming that Troy's voice is a melted version of Bing Crosby. Yes, there are elements of downerism and croonerdom in Dead Western, but DW goes deeper than weird and depressing. There is something beautiful in this bizarre world. Definitely not for the orthodox, but also far from being so out there that the music is incomprehensible. I am very much taken with this record." -Scott Soriano, Z-Gun
