      Hi all,

the Medieval & Renaissance galleries at the Victoria & Albert Museum were reopened last week. The exhibition now occupies a vast amount of space to the right of the main entrance, opposite to the British Galleries.
This being the V&A, pretty much everything in the exhibition is exquisite, unique, or shows superb design and craftsmanship. There are very few everyday items. There are many artworks (paintings, sculptures), some architectural items like columns, some furniture, some ecclesiastic vestments, some jewellery, pavement tiles, wall hangings, armour and much more.

Some items I liked particularly were
      - the 14th century Tristan quilt (http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O98183/bed-cover-the-tristan-quilt/) with several scenes from the story of Tristan on it.
      - a pair of 16th century window shutters from Nuremberg with nice ironwork (http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O117877/window-shutter-mounts/)
      - a 16th century French staircase (http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O55930/staircase/)

There were only very few items of clothing, I remember a pair of Coptic socks and shoes, some 16th century caps and shoes, and a linen coif with lace insets ending in two long lappets (http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O117937/coif-with-lappets/)

You should calculate at least two hours to see it, more if you want to take photos.
It is definitely worth a visit and a good complement to the Museum of London't medieval department, which concentrates more on people's everyday lives.

      Best regards,

      Christina
