- Something to remember:
"Thou" was used with close friends, intimates, family, and when talking to God - in
the same manner as "du" in German. It was also used as a sign of disrespect.
"You" is the formal version that should be used when addressing someone who hasn't
given you permission to be familiar - in the same way that German uses "Sie".
For some reason English was one of the few languages that evolved to end up using
the formal "you" with everyone rather than the informal.
