Top Posting, just don't do it
- The moderators are seeing a lot of this recently.
Please do not top-post to this list.
Top-posting is when you leave the entire email to which you are responding
in your reply box and you just type your reply 'on top' of it . This gives
the list the entire post a second time. Since a large number of our list
gets this in digest format, if everyone did this, the original post would be
repeated as many times as someone has something to say about it. This is
very tedious and a waste of inbox space.
The way that this list encourages replies is to intersperse your comments
with any relevant bits, if you think that the reader may not be sure of what
you're responding to from their original post. If you don't think that your
comments need relevant bits from the post to which you are responding, don't
include any. In this manner, the entire post is not re-sent, inbox space is
not wasted and everyone can understand what you are addressing in your
Please, do not top-post to this list.
The moderators recognize and realize that other groups appreciate and run in
a manner that encourages top-posting, this list does not.
It is not possible for us to list every possible way to delete the old post
before beginning to type your response in order to help you. The easiest way
that I, personally, recommend is to hit the reply key, then (with the curser
in the reply box) hold down the 'control' and letter 'a' keys at the same
time. At this point everything in the reply should be highlighted (that
would be the post to which you are responding). Hit the 'delete' key. It
should all go away. Now you can type your reply and send it to the list
without having top-posted. I have used this method in five different email
programs and it has always worked.
Thank you for your time and attention,
