      I recall mention of an alliance between the Cruithne, or Picts, in Ireland and a few Gaelic tribes that were, or would become, the dal Riada (IIRC) against a people who shot poison arrows. I don't know who they were, but there is a resonance there.

      I half-recall a certain amount of connection between the Scots,
      Finns, and Irish-- weren't these all conquored by the Vikings. As
      such, might not the "elves causing dissease" belief meerly be a
      Viking belief that spread? Or are the traditions older than the
      Viking conquests?
