Well, if you are describing it as "half of a PAIR of hose" - then it's obviously one hose. I've also heard a pair referred to as "hosen", which would also make one a "hose".
Mind you, I agree that "ho" is kind of funny - sort of like the small child I know, who has a speech impediment (yes, he is in speech therapy), who refers to dinosaurs as "dinohores" - cracks us up every time.
