Re: [Authentic_SCA] Re: Accents, was: prohibited authenticity and is now off topic
- Don't blame American TV, blame that Crocodile Dundee guy who gave us the stereotype. By the way, now we think your all crazed adrenaline junkeys like Steve Erwin. Isn't the power of the media wonderful? I understand that you don't say G'day mate. So what is your equivalent of "Yo, 'sup"?Dorje----- Original Message -----From: Elizabeth WalpoleSent: Tuesday, October 30, 2001 4:54 PMSubject: [Authentic_SCA] Re: Accents, was: prohibited authenticity
Not that I'm disagreeing over the fake accent thing, I hate watching
American TV shows with "Australian" (NB the quotes indicate it's some
US producer's idea rather than reality) characters who go around calling
everyone mate etc etc. One example which I used to watch, but can't
stand anymore is a show called JAG, about a bunch of military lawyers.
Another example is the Simpsons episode where they go to "Australia"
(the lowest rating episode of the simpsons ever in Australia)
One tactic a friend of mine used when traveling in America, if asked to
say "G'day Mate" would respond by asking the person in question to
say "Howdy Pardner" firt
