Group Description

The vast majority of the present population is dependent on our global spanning social- economic-industrial infrastructure, not only for an economic livelihood, but for life support such as clean water and food. This present infrastructure is utterly dependent on an uninterrupted flow of cheap and abundant fossil fuels, in particular oil.

Absent a scientific breakthrough, whether from pollution, global warming, or unavoidable shortages, we will be forced to curb such use, and the fallacy of an infrastructure based on the destruction of a finite resource will become clear. We have limited time to voluntarily shift our physical and social paradigms, from individual to global, to something sustainable in a post-fossil fuel era.

While the particular focus here is the high desert of Arizona, the general concepts of sustainability apply regardless of where you live. Feedback that clarifies, corrects, or advances the sustainable concepts presented in any of the files posted at this site is appreciated.

An isolated individual, family, or village cannot maintain civilization. But most present cities are not sustainable. Those who are already awake to the coming challenges are encouraged to create "seed" sustainable communities within appropriate larger communities.

We have inherited the world created by the collected decisions of our ancestors. Our decisions will determine the type of world we leave to our heirs. Let's work together to make it a sane, safe, and better one.
