Hello All -
I had originally intended to let Rick sell the boat to somebody else
as I was still not sure about taking on the maintenance, etc. of a 50
year old boat. However, after giving it a great deal more thought I
decided that I wanted to buy it anyway. I told Rick last night that,
when I finish the sale of my present boat, I will buy the Eric.
Hopefully, she will be mine by early April and I'm looking forward to
becoming acquainted with this beautiful Atkin design.
By the way, I found out that the present owner had a modification
done by a professional boat builder. The head compartment on the port
side was removed to open up the interior and then an enlarged berth
was added along the port side. The toilet was installed forward.
Another thing I like about this boat is the engine access. To get to
it you remove the companionway ladder and there are two panels behind
it that open out, providing complete access. After wrestling for
favorable positions trying to work on the engine of my present boat
this is most welcome.
This will be the first Atkin-designed boat I ever had. I'm looking
forward to taking her under the Golden Gate Bridge and out into the
open water of the coast. Perhaps there is a cruise in her future. She
is certainly built for it.
