      Dear all,
I am a new member, and I am originally from Belgium. The reason I
joined is because I do research on German and Austrian anarchists in
      America.

      I have two questions:

      1. Are there any descendants from Austrian socialists or anarchists
on this list? Or does anyone know resources to find them?

      2. One of the sources I use are the many radical papers they
published. Could somebody explain what the following terms mean, esp.
      their cultural context:

      -Gmoa
      -Weinlese-Fest (Austrian)
      -Bauern-Ball (Austrian)
      -Trutzsch├Ądel

The first word is a mystery, but I am guessing it is a dialect
for "Gemeinde". I know the translation of the two others, but is
there a wine tradition in Austria in which the lower classes
participated? In one reference there is an announcement in
the paper for an international peasants' ball organized
by "Gmoa 'Trutzsch├Ądel'". Is this some kind of organization? Remember
these people were anarchists and working-class immigrants.

      Thank you,
      Tom Goyens
