Group Description

It is the purpose of this group to address the needs and frustrations of neurotypical women (commonly referred to as “NT”) who are married to, or partnered with, men with Asperger’s Syndrome (commonly referred to as “AS”). It is our hope that, in coming together, we can develop a clearer understanding of what it means to be on the spectrum as well as how we can best manage our end of the situation by seeing to our own needs.

As it is well known that women in long term relationships with men affected by AS often suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) and/or Cassandra Affective Deprivation Disorder (CADD), we are here to watch over one another in a caring and supportive way, offering comfort and guidance as seems appropriate to each situation. It is through our discussions that the ideas for our own healing and well-being will emerge. We are a rare sisterhood, because we – unlike our friends and family – actually understand what each of us goes through on a daily basis as we ride the roller coasters we find ourselves on. We know one another’s pain & encourage one another’s joy.

It's vital, as we embark on this journey together, that we realize the importance of understanding Asperger’s Syndrome. It is not a condition that can be healed, but rather a developmental brain anomaly that is difficult for the person on the spectrum to manage. Their incapacity to control emotions effectively, as well as their limitations for reading communication signals from others causes both themselves and we, their partners, no end of difficult challenges.

We come together in the hope that we can ease our own and one another’s journeys as best we can....
