>> Subject: [Ashkenazi-Q] more questions on Rumors #1, #2, and #3 -
>> When and Where our yDNA Came From
>> Hi Dave,
>> These 'rumors' are fascinating! So let me get this
>> straight in layman's terms:
>> 1) Papa Q was a common Siberian ancestor who lived 20,000
>> years ago.
Nope. There is no need with the current tree for papa Q to have made it to Siberia. Q like R and their father P likely all arose and lived in Central Asia with periodic back flow to the 'bread basket' Levant area.
It is Q1a3 that went into Siberia. I have seen no evidence of any other branch of Q going north of Central Asia.
>> 2) The Q lineage seems to have been refined over the past
>> few years of research, so that we now know that there is a Q1 branch,
>> which itself has a branch called Q1b (M378SNP) which broke off from
>> Q1 about 1000 years ago.
No. Your little Jewish branch of Q1b is dating to over 1,000 year old (It is always an at least statement.) There is a big margin of error there and we need more Sephardic samples out to 37 or 67 or more markers.
But this is not the age of Q1b.
>> 3) Interestingly, ethnic (non-Jewish) Hungarians do not
>> have Q - only Jews of Hungary. Can it be said that most Q1Bs are
>> Jews from Hungary?
Actually the Hungarians do have some but they are Q1a2 and that is not related for thousands of years.
>> 4) Our Q1b marker is not Khazar; rather its traces exist
>> among populations of the northern section of the Indian subcontinent.
>> my father had blue eyes, which you indicate is evidence of
>> Khazar 'autosomal DNA'. What does that mean?
If you must look at autosomal go ahead and test with someone like 23andMe. They have some of the Central Asian tribal populations in their dataset.
Just read their terms of service thoroughly.
>> 5) What is the estimated population of Q1b carriers?
About 4.9% of American Ashkenazi Jews.
Sephardic Jews... The Jews who were most recently in the Netherlands. .. We need more data. What we have is not enough to be anything more than anecdotal evidence.
>> 6) Do any ashkenazi levites carry Q1b?
It depends on who you ask. :-)
