23andME Sale - $499 test only $99+$60 for Magazine - Through 11/29
- I noticed that 23andME.com is offering their $499 test for only $99 through 11/29.
You are required to subscribe to their magazine for $5 per month for 12 months.
Here is a link to their site.
If you have been following our recent discussions you will realize this is a very good price.
I have no idea how good he magazine is they want you to buy. But at $159 the test is still a good buy.
Please look over what they are offering.
I have zero economic interest in this.
I pass this information as a favor.
I personally am going to buy some kits for my family and friends who are interested.
Perhaps AJ Levin will share his thoughts on this?
- If you haven't bought this before, it could be interesting for both general ancestry and medical history, but problems in the algorithm make it hard to predict ranges among genetic cousins.Nobody is sure yet what SNPs they will be changing from their previous version of the chip, version 2, but as in the past they will be testing SNPs on the Y. You can then (and should!) join the project for reporting SNPs on the Y:Several SNPs have been found this way. This is also useful for adopted people to get some sense of their ancestry. My only reservation is the subscription service. You might want to order this but then plan to drop the service after the 1-year minimum ($5/month x 12 = $60).Best,A.J.
