wes hail to all ,it seems to be accepted that the 1st century cult of Nerthus is in a direct way the ancestor of the later swedish cult of the vanir fertility cult, ban on weapons in holy places associated with vanir deities and tacitus s mention that weapons had to be laid down when the wagon carrying the emblem of nerthus went around the country side etc.tacitus uses the latin word numen to describe the emblem of Nerthus it has been said that this could be a model boat image of wild boar, as far as i am aware no one knows does anybody have information or ideas on this? The vanir of course had associations with boats and wild boars of course.Does anybody know if the danish island of sjaelland is the location of the Nerthus sanctuary mentioned by tacitus in germania?Does anybody know if there is a cognate word for vanir in any other Germanic language, apart from old Norse? if have read this thanks for taking the time May holy Nerthus Bless all her children in northern
europe, and all others who seek the old ways, now much over grown with time ALU
