Robert Vasquez, Canyon County District 1 Commissioner from 2004 to 2008, today announced his intent to seek the District 1 Canyon County Commissioner seat in the May 2018, Primary election.
“I believe my experience and accomplishments during my previous term in office are required to bring resolution to the Canyon County Jail construction issue” Vasquez said. “There are economies of scale that can and should be reallocated to bring this matter to a close in a fashion that will not require increasing taxes on the citizens of Canyon County, Idaho, and I will diligently seek those solutions” Com. Vasquez stated.
“I believe that $1079.00 PER BED is a exceedingly excessive cost factor, and will review how that amount was reached. I’m certain that cost could be reduced by a good 40% and will locate a less expensive construction method” Com. Vasquez said.
“It will, of course, require the current Board of Commissioner’s to keep an open mind and be willing to take the strong actions this effort will require as I present the options once elected to the District 1 seat in November. Barring any commitment prior to the election by the current Board of County Commissioners, I am certain those economies of scale and a cooperative effort by and with the Canyon County Sheriff will find the funding sources and other actions that will resolve this matter “ Vasquez said.
In closing, Commissioner Vasquez stated “Lastly, and importantly, my political positions regarding immigration have not changed; with the exception of DACA, I fully support President Trump’s position and actions in regards to dealing with those immigration matters.”
