Take This Job and Love It! Gaining Workplace Success

When you earn a living doing what you love, work goes far beyond paying the bills. But getting steady employment, much less a meaningful job, seems daunting given the need to work around tough days, concentration and communication problems, medical appointments, medication side effects—the list goes on.

But there ways to work create employment opportunities that tap into a wide range of strengths and fit well around the need for workplace accommodations such as a flexible schedule, telecommuting, reduced distraction or the use of a job coach.

The NAMI National Convention will explore multiple perspectives on employment and recovery. Some of those perspectives will be featured during Take This Job and Love It! Gaining Workplace Success, which will highlight people who have succeeded in the workforce partly due to the unexpected gifts revealed by the process of recovering from mental illness.

You will leave with answers to questions, such as:

·         How can I earn a living doing what you love?

·         How do I find or create employment that taps your strengths, where you feel appreciated, supported and challenged?

·         As an employer, how can you help workers get to the top of their game while doing what it takes to pursue their recovery?
