She earned the B.A. in medieval and renaissance studies at Syracuse, and later attended Cornell University to study historical preservation of architecture. Until the time of her illness she worked at HSBC bank in Syracuse. Elspeth was known for her outgoing personality -- she seemed to know everyone -- her delectable desserts, and for perhaps especially for her remarkable garden: (she was member of the Thornden Park Garden Association). She is survived by her husband, Blaine; her parents, Robert and Jean Stanfield; her brother, Robert Stanfield; and her sister, Virginia Gent; sisters-in-law, Amy, Debbie and Alison; brothers-in-law, Jonny and Scott; nieces and nephews, Kelson, Kathryn, Ian, Laura, Michael, Anna, James, Daniel, Rachael, Robert
and Blaine. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Greenleaf Funeral Home, 503 West Onondaga Street, Syracuse. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Coaches Versus Cancer, c/o the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30329, or www.cancer.org Greenleaf Funeral Home, Inc.
