HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! Our wonderful Bobcat wanted to make sure that everyone got his Valentine! He is enjoying the snow more than anyone! His coat is so thick and warm, he doesn’t realize it’s cold out!
Speaking of snow, wow…this is a really bad time for wildlife! With such deep snow, many animals are coming in starving as they are having a terrible time foraging for food. Supplies are running low due to the large number of animals needing help. We are getting in Cottontail Rabbits, a large variety of songbirds, hawks and owls. With lots of time and food, they should all be fine and be able to be released in the spring. Robert has been trying to keep everything plowed here though it’s impossible to plow to all the enclosures so getting to them has proven “interesting”! I have found myself face first in snow drifts quite a bit lately! I can only imagine the giggles coming from the trees and enclosures of the wildlife that witnessed my falls! Hehehehehe. Good thing no one is video taping me as I might end up on funniest home videos!!
I wanted to take a moment to honor a very dear friend, sister in heart & rehab and very amazing person who crossed over last week. Gretchen Weslager was one AMAZING woman and one of the best wildlife rehabilitators I’ve ever known. Gretchen cared for hundreds of animals in her lifetime, running Windy Ridge Wildlife Refuge in Fayette County. She and I talked all the time and I am so going to miss her dearly and her wealth of knowledge. It is because of her that I have the best information on caring for fawns…she taught me it all! She wasn’t feeling well and asked me to take the rest of the wildlife she had in care a couple weeks ago. We transferred them here, she was to have surgery and was planning on getting better for baby season. Complications from surgery took her from us. This spring, when we build our beaver enclosure, we will dedicate it to her as she also taught me all I would ever need to know about them! She will forever be in my heart and will now guide me from Spirit World! I love you Gretchen!
We’re asking for help on this Valentine weekend to send a Valentine pledge to the wildlife. We need help so we can keep taking in these very needy animals. We have 52 people pledging their monthly support but need at least 300 to ensure enough funds each and every month to care for them all. Even a $5 a month pledge added to others helps in a BIG way! You can click on this link, http://www.skyes-spirit.com/index_files/pledge.htm to go right to our pledge page and start helping today! If you would prefer to mail your monthly pledge, please e-mail me with your information and I’ll put you on a monthly e-mail reminder list.
**Our Wildlife Baby Shower is on April 24th from noon to 4pm. Please join us to help celebrate wildlife and help us raise the funds and supplies to care for wildlife. If you would like me to e-mail you a flyer please let me know. If you e-mailed previously for a flyer and didn’t get it, please e-mail again…I was having some e-mail difficulties that have been cleared up now.
Have a safe and wonderful weekend my friends! Spring will be here before we know it! Thank you ALL for your continued support of the beautiful wildlife that needs our help!
Please forward this e-mail on to anyone on your lists!
Love and light,
Maryjane & Robert Angelo
