Stop Bear Slaughter from Spreading Into Maryland - Your Action Needed by February 12th

Forward widely to stop this cruelty from spreading into Maryland!

Last month, New Jersey held its first bear hunt in more than three
      decades. Hunters killed 328 bears in a six-day season--including a
terrified young bear cub who staggered out of the woods onto Rt. 23,
mortally wounded in front of horrified morning commuters, laying his
small head on the cold pavement, and dying with snow on his paws.

Now, Maryland wants to repeat this tragic mistake by having its own
bear hunt--for the first time in half a century. Although there are
only an estimated 266 to 437 bears in the entire state, the Department
of Natural Resources has just released its Ten-Year Black Bear
Management Plan, which calls for bear hunting to begin as early as
this Fall. We need every citizen who cares about bears to submit
written comments opposing a bear hunt!

You can review the Black Bear Management Plan at:

And submit your comments--they must be received by Close of Business
      on February 12, 2004--to:
