Muscat in Libya: Is Libya signing Geneva convention?

In view of Prime Minister Muscat's visit to Libya, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, said: "It is very positive that the Maltese Prime Minister went to Libya to discuss various topics of common concern, such as energy issues, tourism, border security, irregular migration and human trafficking. Has Prime Minister Muscat insisted with his Libyan counterpart that Malta and the international community expect Libya to ratify the Geneva convention on the protection of refugees as soon as possible? Until Libya ratifies this convention that recognizes refugees' rights, all talk on the issue will remain just sweet talk and nothing else".

Muscat fil-Libja: Ser tiffirma l-Konvenzjoni ta' Ġinevra l-Libja?

Rigward il-mawra tal-Prim Ministru Muscat fil-Libja, iċ-Chairperson ta' Alternattiva Demokratika, il-Professur Arnold Cassola, qal: "Hija xi ħaga pożittiva li l-Prim Ministru Malti żar il-Libja biex jiddiskuti suġġetti varji li jinteressaw liż-żewġ pajjiżi, bħall-enerġija, it-turiżmu, is-sigurta' tal-fruntieri, il-migrazzjoni irregolari u t-traffikar tal-persuni. Nixtiequ nkunu nafu jekk il-Prim Ministru insistiex mal-Prim Ministru Libjan li Malta u l-komunita' internazzjonali qed tistenna li l-Libja tirratifika il-Konvenzjoni ta' Ġinevra dwar il-protezzjoni tar-refuġjati mill-iktar fis possibli. Sakemm il-Libja tibqa' ma tirratifikax din il-konvenzjoni li tagħraf id-drittijiet tar-refuġjati, kull diskussjoni fuq din il-kwistjoni m'hi xejn ħlief paroli fil-vojt".
