The Ceratonia Foundation will be holding a guided walk at Xaghra l-Hamra on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The foundation said the extensive stretch of garigue at Xaghra l-Hamra, behind the new hotel at Golden Bay, Ghajn Tuffieha and very close to the peaceful hamlet of Manikata, is being considered as a potential site for a new golf course.

A number of farmers have already had their fields expropriated even though they have invested heavily out of their own pockets and by making use of rural development funds from the European Union, the foundation said.

Environmental organisations, NGOs, an NGO founded by Manikata farmers, the Ceratonia Foundation, Ekologika and Alternattiva Demokratika are among those opposing the proposed golf course project.

The meeting place is the car park opposite Manikata church.

Artists and musicians are also invited.
