Auto Theft; Malicious Destruction of Property - Community Advisory
- On February 12, 2014, at approximately 6:08 pm, Takoma Park Police received a call from a victim who observed her stolen auto (reported stolen on February 5) parked in the 8200 block of Houston Court. She saw a suspect get into the vehicle and she followed the vehicle for a short while before losing sight. She indicated that her Virginia tags had been replaced with Maryland tags (proving police with both tag numbers), but she was able to identify her vehicle by various bumper stickers, markings and vehicle design.
Takoma Park Police observed the vehicle driving east on Flower Avenue at Hudson Avenue. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled in the vehicle. The suspect drove through Takoma Park, making many turns, before wrecking the vehicle in the 8200 block of Roanoke Avenue. At some point before the wreck, the suspect bailed out of the vehicle and disappeared. A perimeter was established and a K9 track was attempted. The track ended near Brighton and Houston Court. During his attempt to stop the vehicle, the officer did note that the suspect was wearing a red hat and had stocky shoulders. The victim described the suspect as a white male, possibly in his 30's, and approximately 5'10-5'11.
Examination of the vehicle revealed that the ignition had been punched and property stolen from inside. The vehicle was processed, which led to some information of evidentiary value.
