I have successfully used lengths of plastic plumbing pipe to transport bundles of thin wood, metal strips, and similar shaped items. One advantage is that threaded pipe caps can be used to make the package weather tight. A plastic tube filled with wood strips can also be transported by a commercial shipper with only a small likelihood of having the material damaged in transit.

Getting ready to go up to the cottage in Canada. How to transport all these long thin wood pieces. Blue tape them into rectangular bundles and pack them into the strongback. Worked like a charm.
