I am just starting to build my first boat, a Whitehall Jr.. I have access to some nice green, clear hemlock. Should I use this for the long stringers, gunwale & rails? Or should I continue to look for spruce? I can get green spruce, but may have to scarf some together. Also, one of the woods Monfort recommends for stringers is Poplar. There are a lot of different types of Poplar & my local logger calls it a Tulip tree or "whitewood". Which specific Poplar is best to use? In short my question is which wood would work best for the stringers? Thanks in advance for the help.
