Re: [AirVW] Dual Ignition? Why not dual everything else as well?
Go with dual crankshafts maybe.
During my VW Bug and VW Thing years I never had an ignition stoppage.
It did run rough when wet after off road puddle jumps - but dried out and cleared up.
On road rain never a prob.
I'm planning on single ignition.On Jun 20, 2013 11:52 PM, "phreakphrat" <nickpullen@...> wrote:
This is more of a general aviation questions/discussion.
But why the emphasis on dual ignition, and not dual redundant carbs/ fuel feeds, pumps(some do it) and dual everything else.
My thinking is in the past, magnetos have been prone to failure, but then so are carbs getting clogged and such... lots of incidents caused by fuel starvation...
With modern electronic solid state ignitions (compufire/pertronix) in a 009 dizzy, or complete CDI coil per plug, is dual ign needed anymore?
Your thoughts please?
- Very well considered, I am sick of .016 plug gaps and overpriced plugs. I would like to see if it is possible to mount an 009 dist. where my magneto goes on my Sonerai. I was hoping to avoid and electrical system, but GPS advises a pump anyhow, so why not go for a distributor too.
- The 009 distributor is noted as being robust, I too would like to be able to put one on my Sonerai, I thought that it may be possible that someone made an adapter that would fit on the aft end of the cam.
Any suggestions? I never liked Monnetts "beauty bump"!
