Hi....I'm trying to track down information on two pieces of art I obtained. One is a wood carving of an elephant head and the other a bronze:
1. I bought a wood carving of an elephant from a woman that taught in Ghana during the 70s. What fascinates me the most is that it appears to be an elephant "mask" similar to the ones shown on the Rand African Art website from the grasslands of Cameroon (Big ears, long snout and tusks). This is a carving from wood. 22" long by 9" wide. I also found an almost identical one hanging in the elephant exhibit of the Oregon Zoo. Other than this, I'm at a loss to find more information. Hopefully someone on this site might be of help.
2. 15" tall bronze of a tribesman carrying his kill. The tag on the bottom of the bronze says "Upper Volta". So, if that is correct, it dates it pre-1984 as that is when the country renamed itself Burkina Faso. Actually a very detailed figure.
Thanks for any help!
