For those of you in Southern California...

Susan Keech McIntosh will present on Thursday, September 27 -- as part of the "Conservation Matters" series at the Getty Center in Los Angeles (not the Villa in Malibu, so no surf boards, please) -- a lecture on terra cotta figures and looting in Mali, Nigeria, Niger and Ghana.  Learn more about the lecture (reservations required) at the link provided below.

The linked newsletter also provides a link to the ICOM Red List of African Archaeological Objects at Risk (also accessible in French) which hosts introductory information on stolen and looted African archaeological terra cotta, bronze, ceramic and stone artifacts including those culturally or geographically classified as from Nok, Ife, Niger Valley, Bura, Burkina Faso, Komaland and "Sao" as well as links to resources and publications relating to the illicit trade in African art, artifacts and antiquities, etc.

Susan Keech McIntosh and Roderick J. McIntosh, Dr. McIntosh have conducted and/or participated in various excavation and research projects in Western Africa including numerous those at "Jenne-jeno, an ancient African city":  see http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~anth/arch/niger/broch-eng.html.
