Group Description

This list is for adults whose parents divorced/separated anytime after they turned eighteen. While it is becoming increasingly common for couples to divorce after twenty, twenty-five, even thirty or more years of marriage, this trend continues to receive very little attention, with few sources of support for those left struggling to cope with the breakup of their parents marriage so late in life. Practically all resources for children of divorce focus on younger children.

The biggest shock of my life was when my father left after twenty-nine years of marriage. He moved out without making even the faintest attempt to save his marriage or his family. After almost EIGHT years, we still have no relationship to speak of, even though he continues to live in the same town, with a brand new home, and a new wife.

Now, he is just a person who is out there. But in the beginning, I went through feelings of extreme hatred and anger, sometimes wanting revenge, until I eventually fell into a depression that almost cost me my life. It did cost me my own marriage.

If you are an adult dealing with the same situation in your own family, this list is for you. Aside from being a safe place to vent, we will discuss a range of topics, such as how to deal with the feelings we have, how to handle holidays, family events, etc., and how the divorce has affected us as adults, many with marriages and families of our own.

This list is an excellent source of support to over 500 members.
