Please share with your respective community groups, thank youCindi BarkerThe West Seattle Be Prepared Education and Training series continues on May 16, 2011 with the West Seattle Be Prepared Group joining forces with Mark Howard from the Seattle Office of Emergency Management to present the documentary, Cascadia-The Hidden Fire. A "groundbreaking" broadcast television special/home video that educates homeowners, business owners and educators on earthquake hazards unique to the Cascadia region and how to effectively prepare for and survive them. Join scientists on a fascinating journey of discovery of super-quakes in the Pacific Northwest. New cutting edge research reveals that the area will experience earthquakes as large as humans have ever witnessed. Dozens of lethal crustal faults lie just underneath Seattle and Portland and could cause catastrophic damage. And a massive magnitude 9.0 subduction zone earthquake could wreak havoc up and down the 700 mile Cascadia coast...from Southern British Columbia to Northern California. This shaking would last two to four minutes and cause major damage along most of the West Coast.
The movie will be followed by a discussion and question & answer with Mark Howard and special guest Chris Jonientz-Trisler who is in the documentary. Chris’s background includes 11 years of seismology lab work (earthquake and volcano research, working with the public on what it means) and 19 years with FEMA, 15 of those running the regional Earthquake, Volcano and Tsunami Programs. The last 4 years she has managed the Hazard Mitigation Assistance grant programs to mitigate flood and earthquake impacts in the Pacific Northwest.
When: Monday, May 16, 2011 6-8pm
Where: Senior Citizens Center (corner of Alaska & California) 2nd floor April 7th 6-8.
